SSDI Payment Schedule 2026

Your SSDI deposit date depends on one thing: the day of the month you were born. Find your row below and you will know every payment date for the rest of the year.

How the SSA Decides Your Payment Day

Social Security staggers disability payments across three Wednesdays each month so the payment system is not overwhelmed. Which Wednesday you get depends entirely on your birth date:

  • Born 1st – 10th: paid on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
  • Born 11th – 20th: paid on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
  • Born 21st – 31st: paid on the 4th Wednesday of the month.

Two exceptions are paid on the 3rd of the month instead: people who have received Social Security continuously since before May 1997, and people who receive SSDI and SSI concurrently. If the 3rd falls on a weekend or federal holiday, that payment moves to the business day before.

When Your First SSDI Payment Arrives

Your first monthly payment does not begin the month you are approved. SSDI has a mandatory five-month waiting period that starts with your established disability onset date, so benefits begin with the sixth full month of disability. Once the SSA processes the award, your ongoing monthly payments fall onto the birthday Wednesday schedule above, and any back pay you are owed is usually deposited as a separate lump sum within about 60 days.

Learn more in our guides to the five-month waiting period and the SSDI back pay calculator.

If a Payment Does Not Arrive

Wait three business days past your scheduled date before treating a payment as missing — that is the SSA's own guidance. Then check your bank or Direct Express account, confirm your deposit details in your my Social Security account, and call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 if the money still has not posted. Payments can also be withheld or reduced after an overpayment notice, a change in work activity, or a continuing disability review.
